At Puppy Love Rescue, we do our best to match each dog with the most suitable home in order to give the pup and the family the best chance of working out! Each dog has different individual needs and as such, not every home with be conducive to a ‘happy life’. So we start our adoption procedure with an application.
Once we receive the applications, we sort to see which applicants are best suited to each dog. We contact these applicants and arrange for a home check to be carried out. When we do home checks, we are looking to see that the environment is a safe one for this particular animal. Some dogs require more sturdy fencing than others, or various fence heights, the amount of stairs for one that may have bad knees etc.
Once the home check has been completed and the applicant still suitable we arrange for the new family to come along and meet the pup together with their existing canine if applicable. If this meeting goes smoothly, then a 2 week trial period can begin immediately.
The trial period is to ensure the animal is in the right home and the home has the right animal. This also confirms that everyone is happily working out before anything is formalised.
Upon completion of the 2 week trial, a change of ownership form is submitted to council and the adoption finalised.
